Altons Towers, one the UK's most famous and best theme parks re-opens for the 2011 season on Saturday 26th March.

Alton Towers first opened its gates in 1860 but not as a theme park, this started in 1980 with the introduction of the Corkscrew roller coaster.

Today the theme park is packed full of exciting rides and garden walks.

It's great for all ages and a day there is sometimes never enough although, with the walking beyween rides your feet may think so.

Alton Towers has some superb roller coasters and if you book your trip out of the school holidays, queuing time can be just a few minutes. It does get very busy at peak times and it has been know to queue for up to two hours !

Rita.

A sort of drag car roller coaster that hurtles you from 0-60 in just over two seconds. A very popular ride that attracts the largest queues. Sit at the front for cheek ripping fun or at the back for a faster ride.

It is over all too quickly for me, sort of sharp and sweet. Worth a go though.

Air.

A sort of silky smooth rollercoaster than you ride in a horizontal position. I do like air, it has a sort of dreamy feel as you glide around. It is very smooth so ideal for anyone who doesn't like being thrown about too much.

Nemesis.

An evil rusty rollercoaster track that weaves and twists, throws you about a little with a nice couple of loops to spice things up.

Th13teen .

Nice ride with a hidden suprise. Starts off slow and picks up speed. The last part of the ride rocks...I'll let you find out for yourself what happens. Last time we queued up for this some freaky Alton Towers people where dressed in sacks and dotted around the path to add effect. If you go down in  the woods today... Recommended.

Hex.

Like some crazy twisted acid trip, Hex is an Alton Towers attraction that will mess with your mind. The effects are superb. Love it.

There is lots more to see and do at Alton Towers with plenty of cafes and bar to grab a beer or soft drink.

Overall it's well worth a visit and definately an annual pilgrimige for some.

You can usually get discounted tickets out of the papers or by using supermarket vouchers. Also check on ebay for some good deals.
